Last week, Democrat Fran Nelms held a fundraiser at O’Mare’s Irish Pub, 10253 Bustleton Ave. Nelms is expected to face Matt Darragh in the primary. Darragh will likely have the support of the ward leaders. The incumbent is Republican Rep. Martina White.

Nelms, 25, was born and raised in Somerton. He is a graduate of St. Christopher, Archbishop Ryan and Temple. He works part-time, handling constituent service issues, for U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle.

For the last five months, Nelms has been knocking on doors in the district. He’s also held three fundraisers.

“We probably have one of the most aggressive field campaigns in the state,” he said.

On Jan. 26, Nelms and other candidates will start collecting nominating petitions. The minimum number of signatures to win a spot on the April 26 primary ballot is 300, but Nelms hopes to collect at least 1,000. ••
